Benefits of Travertine Tiles and Pavers

Travertine tiles and pavers are ideal for use around the pool and patios areas because they will stay cool on your feet and are freeze-thaw compatible. Travertine pavers have a non-slip surface finish as they have a high co-efficient of friction. This means that Travertine Pavers will provide a safe walking and play surface area for the whole family. Travertine pavers can withstand weathering and erosion without deteriorating. It is known that Travertine material improves with age. Colors will not fade over time. Travertine tiles and pavers will maintain their natural color for decades.

Another great benefit is that Travertine pavers require little to no maintenance or cleaning. They are simply a natural hard-wearing stone. Travertine is a versatile, durable and reliable material. The Colosseum and many other buildings thousands of years old are made from Travertine – evidence of this stone’s extraordinary powers of resilience.

Applications

Once Travertine is quarried it is then cut to size and thickness. This enables Travertine to be used as a paving material. Commercially, Travertine tiles and paving stones have been used for street pavements, market, malls and churches.

Travertine tiles and pavers are used widely in the landscaping industry. It can create unique arrangements for outdoor flooring, such as: balconies, patios, around the pool and walkways. Travertine tiles are ideal for use as stepping-stones in the garden, borders and edging around flower beds, pool coping and even for driveways.

Using Travertine Tiles instead of Limestone and Marble?

Travertine is a type of ‘morphed’ limestone, where the lime content has been deposited by water. Limestone is the youngest of the natural stones, Travertine is about 50 million years old, and Marble is the oldest at 100 million years old.

Limestone is the most commonly used building stone, featured in many popular buildings around the world. Travertine is ideal for indoor and outdoor applications, for the surface never gets hot. This is due to the lack of metal content in the stone. Travertine is said to be non-slip and twice the strength of concrete.

Marble is the oldest stone, and contains more veining throughout. Travertine is a much wilder natural stone than Marble is. Marble is suitable for all the same applications that Travertine is suitable for.
